What is Marketing, anyways?
Customer Acquisition and Engagement
What is Marketing, really?
And how do you build up the courage to toot your own horn?
Many people thinking about going out on their own or in the early stages of starting a business are worried about answering one, big question:
How do I even get a customer?
Who would pay me for [insert your product or service here]?
After over a decade in business, here’s the best definition I’ve heard for the word…
Marketing
Telling everyone you know about what you’re passionate about and how you help people by doing this particular thing.
What happens when you do this?
Some will enjoy hearing about a subject you’re passionate about, and a few will identify with the pain point you address and be interested in your insights to finding a solution.
Bingo! You’ve got a Lead.
Lead
Someone interested in what you have to offer.
Marketing is not “being Sales-y”, pestering someone to buy, or any of the other negative connotations out there we’re all familiar with. Marketing is telling people what you love to do. If THEY resonate with your story, they will gladly purchase your product, service because you are providing a solution to a problem they can’t fix on their own.
Essentially, money interchanges hands when…
THEY value YOUR SERVICE/PRODUCT more!!! than their $,
and YOU value THEIR $ more than the effort it takes to provide them with your Service/Product.
It’s a Win-Win.
Make sense?
